Mark Coticchia is Vice President for Research and Technology Management at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) where he has responsibility for managing CWRU's research agenda and technology commercialization priorities, including research administration, technology transfer, the Wright Fuel Cell Group, and the Science and Technology Applications Center.
Prior to joining CWRU, Mr. Coticchia was Senior Director of Redleaf Group, Inc., an early stage venture capital firm. As part of the senior management team based in Pittsburgh, his responsibilities included the development and management of a global University Technology Transfer / Incubator Operation that included seed-level investment activities.
From 1997-2000, Mr. Coticchia was Director of Technology Transfer at Carnegie Mellon University where he was responsible for the management of the function whose mission is to lead the successful commercialization of ideas created by people at Carnegie Mellon by enlisting the forces of free enterprise and entrepreneurship, through licensing and by facilitating the start-up of new companies. He also served as an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon.
Born in Pittsburgh, he received his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management, and Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh; and has subsequently been honored by his alma mater for outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability.
Mr. Coticchia received the Marketing Award from Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he held senior engineering and marketing positions, as well as having collateral responsibility as a corporate spokesperson on technology and automation subjects.
He serves on the board of directors and advisory boards of several high technology companies and not-for-profit organizations, among them BioEnterprise, Inc., Draper Triangle Ventures II Fund, The Generation Foundation, JumpStart, Inc., the Northeast Ohio Technology Council, the Ohio Supercomputer Center, the Ohio Venture Association, and BioOhio, Inc. He is also a co-founder of Lycos, Inc., the search engine and web portal company centered on broadband entertainment content.
Mr. Coticchia is the author of three books that address technical management issues, as well as numerous articles on interactive graphics, CAD/CAM systems and the management of automated systems. He currently serves as editor of the Marcel Dekker, Inc. book series, Computer-Aided Engineering.
An internationally recognized expert in his field, Mr. Coticchia has recently presented to audiences from industry, government, and academia in Australia, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
